Basketball season has started for both boys and girl. The eighth grade girls’ basketball team practiced to get ready for their first game against Grant County. The first game was a win with a score of 34–32. There’s a variety of members on the eighth grade girls’ basketball team, including a majority of last season’s members and new ones too. Mr. Kevin Neiporte, Athletic Director, said, “The team is now missing one of their best players Rory O’Hara who has moved to the Girls’ Freshman Basketball Team for the high school. But with this, it gives other players a chance to shine. The team has also changed in coaches. This year there is a new coach for the Eighth Grade Girls’ Team, Olivia Huber, three-time national champion from Thomas Moore College.” The Eighth Grade Boys’ Basketball Team has undergone some changes. “The boys’ team has actually gone through more spots and changes than the girls team. They moved up three players to the Freshman Basketball Team for the high school. The players that moved up to Freshman include Sam Vinson, Joe Buten, and Cameron Hergott. Justin Gabbard also decided to take time off from basketball, and concentrate on golf, in which he is phenomenal at. This change has opened a lot of opportunity for four more players to have a spot on the eighth grade team,” said Mr. Neiporte. The eighth grade basketball members are more mature with their playing, and are preparing for high school basketball.
